A Picnic in Paradise with Amy and Rishi

I am not making that up. We had a picnic in Paradise today. I'll tell you about that later.

I did not have it yesterday. Sorry no blog. I needed a day off.

Last evening, Beth and I called an old friend, Faith Meltzer. Faith's late husband Ross was one of my best friends. He died eight years ago. When I get around to it, I'll blog about Ross. He was quite a character. We had not heard from Faith in a long time. It was good to check in with her. We have a lot of history together.

Hot night yesterday. Beth and I had wine and hors de'ouvres in the garden, under the apple tree.

We got up early and drove to Treasure Island. We met Amy and Rishi for a tour of the bay and picnic on the boat.

Amy and Rishi: We met Rishi at the City of Berkeley's Tuolumne Camp circa 1990, when Peg was a baby. We went every year for about ten years. Amy, an expert gardener and flower arranger (inter alia), is Rishi's wife. Rishi was in the natural products biz for years, running the Feather River Company. He has been retired for a long time.

Rishi is a wise sage (redundant?), good friend, multi-talented, funny, smart, capable person. He and Amy live in Inverness Park. We got closer to them when we moved to West Marin in 2005. Rishi has taught me many lessons in life, carpentry, electrical, roofing, etc. Like Robert, he lives in a house he built himself. He sings in a choir. He might be the smartest person I know. I respect and admire him.

I wish I had pictures of Amy and Rishi's garden. Flowers, fruit trees, vegetables, ponds. All watered using water that Rishi diverted from a stream.  I'll get pictures of their garden, next time I am at their house.

Amy is our gardening inspiration. She does flower arrangement for our local restaurant, Saltwater, and for special events. She headed up the Pt. Reyes Farmers Market for years, even hosting Prince Charles, there, when he was in town. I almost forget that Amy has a day job - teaching gardening to the disabled. She worked as a river guide for many years. She lived in Alaska for quite some time. Amy and Rishi met volunteering in the Pt. Reyes National Seashore. Probably counting elephant seals (or some other sea creatures) together.

Back to the story on the boat. We left the dock and headed west to San Francisco. Amy and Rishi are big sports fans. Huge Giants fans! We took a look at the new Chase Center

And spent a little time in McCovey Cove

We headed west along the SF shoreline, past the Ferry Building, cruise ship terminal, Pier 39 and Fisherman's wharf. Then north past Alcatraz to Angel Island.

On the way, I took note of where the boats were fishing. I found a few new spots to try.

We slowed and gawked at the mansions on the water in Tiburon.

Beth in her silly hat
Onward through the Raccoon Straits. North past California City to -
Paradise.

We anchored up and had a nice picnic lunch.

Beth drove us back to Treasure Island

Another day in Bearadise.
