Have a Good Cry
Beth and I ended a mini vacation in SF: Friday night with Gail and Gamiel; Farmers Market Saturday morning; lunch with Yael and Nadav; Dinner with my family in Berkeley.
I am paying the price for going off my seagan diet. Lamb chops Friday and beef last night. Plus lots of wine in between. My right foot is sore and elevated as I write this.
I rested today. We are back in Inverness. We watched three movies today: Juliet Naked; The Big Sick and Marianne and Leonard. The first two made me cry. Juliet Naked is a Judd Apatow movie about a British woman who falls in love with a musician that her boyfriend idolized. The Big Sick is the true story of Kumail Nanjiani (Pakistani comedic actor) falling in love with an American woman. Marianne and Leonard is a documentary about Leonard Cohen. We did not finish. No tears yet. I doubt I'll cry over a documentary.
It felt really good to cry. I hadn't cried since my 60th birthday party. Before that was my dad's funeral. It makes me want to rewatch my favorite tearjerkers: Lassie Come Home; How Green Was My Valley; and Empire of the Sun.
I recommend tearjerker movies for all of you enduring this pandemic. We all have pent up emotions. A good cry will help. We are all a bit depressed. Crying makes you feel better afterward.
It felt really good to get together with my family yesterday in Berkeley. I just planned to stop by. Turned out Joe was coming for dinner. We got invited to stay. The whole mishbocha. I think it made my mom happy to have all her children with her for the evening.
Thomas had stopped by earlier in the day. He was on his way home from the airport, after seeing Kate off to college. A milestone in his life.
Beth and I are talking about a real mini vacation to Mendocino, Carmel or who knows where. We need to get away. I even floated the idea of driving to Glacier National Park. We all need to have something to look forward to. Hope when all seems hopeless.
the bear
I'm going to go watch Juliet Naked right now, and have a good cry!
