Worry

Thursday August 27, 2020

I am worried about so many things: the fire, the fascist convention masquerading as politics as usual, the health and welfare of my close friends and family.

Still lots of smoke in the air today. No possibility of exercise in the morning. I have not been on my bike since the 18th. We can only take a hike when the wind is blowing in the afternoon.

Our friends Howard and Ellen, who live down the street in Inverness came over for dinner last night.

I made a vegetarian dinner for them which included vegetables and herbs from the garden (supplemented by some sushi and stuff from Berkeley Bowl). I shopped at Berkeley Bowl after taking my boat in to the shop. Fingers crossed - it appears that the navigation issues I had with the boat are not difficult to fix. Partly fixed now. Just waiting for a part to complete the job.

Ellen had a good joke: Three Jewish women are out to lunch. One says, "Oy". The second says, "Oy Veh". The third says, "I thought we promised not to talk about our kids!"

The fire seems to be waning. Fingers crossed a second time. If you want more info, just google the Woodward Fire. All roads around here are closed, except for locals. A few communities have been evacuated. The deli in Inverness Park has been closed for a few days. There are many cars and trucks parked in Pt. Reyes Station, likely belonging to all the firefighters here to assist. Unsettling.

My old workers comp education committee reached out to me. They want me to speak at a zoom seminar in early December. Originally, they asked me to speak about Covid. I turned that down because I have no knowledge or experience dealing with Covid claims because I have not worked in over a year. Now, they want to me speak on some other issues I know well.

It feels good to be wanted and valued. I miss being a big fish in a small pond. It is lonely outside the pond. I won't get to see anyone because it will just be a zoom event. Still, I will feel connected to the workers comp community.

Jeff, my old partner is keeping me busy. I have about four or five half days of work over the next month. All zoom depositions. A foot in the water.

I am going fishing tomorrow with Greg and Earl. Hopefully, I'll have something to blog about. We have had no luck the last few trips.
