Abbott's Lagoon

Great garden inspection today. I enjoyed the savory smell of lavender and the sound of a hummingbird. I found a new bud on my cucumber plant - promising. After my usual trek to Bovine, we meditated in the front yard. 

In Pt. Reyes station, this morning, I saw a pickup truck with a big animal enclosure in the back. Something baa'ed from it. I love living in the country.

I suggested we to to Abbott's Lagoon in the Pt. Reyes National Seashore. It opened back up recently. 

We made the short drive from Inverness. This is one of our favorite places in Pt. Reyes. Amy Whelan showed it to us several years ago. We have been gone back frequently. There is a fresh or brackish water lagoon that stretches out all the way to the beach. It seems like water might spill over from the ocean during a storm or high tide but I have never seen that.

It was a beautiful day. Sunny and not too windy. We often see huge flocks of birds. Not today. We have developed a mask etiquette for hiking trails. We have mask in hand. If someone approaching has a mask on, we put ours on. If not, we may or may not. We rarely come here on weekends, so it is not usually too crowded.

Put it in saltwater and it will heal. The roar of the waves and smell of salt air - aah!

Nature makes me feel peaceful; Cows make me feel peaceful. Fresh country air makes me feel peaceful.  We need health, peace and justice,  globally and nationally. May all people experience health, peace, justice and equality.

A Great Day Fishing with Earl

Another epic fishing day. I had the alarm set for 5:20 a.m. Meeting Earl at the boat at 5:45. I woke up at 4 and could not get back to sleep. No problem - I did the NYT spelling bee. Got out of the house and got to the boat early at Treasure Island. Got things set up and started the engines. Earl arrived and we quickly shoved off. Motored across the bay to fisherman's wharf to get live bait. We were not alone. There was a line of about 20 boats all the way out of the cove into the bay, waiting to get bait. We slowly eased our way to the bait receiver and got our two netfuls of live anchovies which they call a "half scoop", poured gently into our live bait tank. Decision time: where should we fish. There were at least 25 boats fishing all around Alcatraz. I often avoid the popular crowded spots unless I know for sure that the fish are biting there. Coast Trail

Saturday. Beth and I did our customary garden tour and maintenance in the morning. It is good for the garden when we look at every plant daily. My mole traps are idle. Since I set them, the moles have kept a  low profile. We hiked five miles in the Pt. Reyes National Seashore. A beautiful loop beginning near the Youth Hostel down the Coast Trail to Limantour Beach; and back up to the Youth Hostel.  Late afternoon, we drove to San Francisco for the night. Fishing again tomorrow. Years from now, when someone asks how I survived Covid 19, I'll tell them, I escaped by fishing as much as possible. Beth and I had a delicious takeout Italian dinner from the Ideale Restaurant in North Beach, courtesy of our friend David Zalob. David usually invites a large group for lunch at Ideale to celebrate his birthday. He turned 73 this year. Ebb Tide

Thursday September 24, 2020 Alas, this is the last entry of this blog. Bear's life will go on. The tides will continue to ebb and flow. I needed a break. I feel like I lost my mojo. Maybe I am depressed over the pandemic and what feels like the worst year of my life/our lives. I feel like I my life is on hold. Something is holding me back from everything. I feel unmotivated. Unexcited. I am just going through the motions every day; even with the blog.  I read through a bunch of my old blog entries. There were days when words poured out of me. I am pulling them out of me right now. Hard to be joyful about anything.  I'll start up again when the spirit moves me.  the bear
