Happy Birthday Thomas

Every morning, Beth and I take a walk around the garden. Often with a cup of tea. Beth has a rose, a yellow Graham Thomas, that is very fragrant. I take a big whiff every morning. So sweet. Refreshing way to start the day.

Thomas Luehrsen's birthday today. His daughter Kate scheduled a surprise party. Thomas thought we would all have a zoom call at 5 p.m.  for his birthday.  Instead, ten or so of us  showed up at his house, in Corte Madera, at 5 p.m. He was surprised. We all started out with masks on. However, it is hard to drink a glass of wine with your face covered.

Thomas
Background on Thomas: Thomas and I met at Cal in about 1980. We lived in a Co-op, Andres Castro Arms. He is from Huntsville, Alabama. His parents emigrated from Germany after WWII. His dad Hannes was a city planner who worked with Wernher von Braun. Thomas' mother died young. After she died, he came out to California to attend Cal. At Cal, we were both Anthropology majors. He is one of my oldest and closest friends. I consider him family. He is as close to me as anyone in my family.

Thomas is an artist disguised as a high tech worker. After Cal, he went to USC for grad school. He got a degree in Visual Anthropology. He is a photographer, videographer and film maker. Thomas works for Apple on the Final Cut Pro video editing software.

Thomas filmed, our wedding and my grandparents 70th wedding anniversary party, among other things.

Thomas is handsome, smart, generous, funny, talented, inquisitive and fun. He and I have had some great travels together dating back to the early 1980s. So many stories. So many shared laughs.

Here are some photos from today's outdoor VERY safe party.
